ElecoFloor® 36 & 40…

PROVIDES TIME and COST SAVING FOR PART E and can help maximise credits towards the CODE FOR SUSTAINABLE HOMES scheme.

Housebuilders looking to maximise on the voluntary points available under the Code for Sustainable Homes (CSH) for exceeding the requirements of Part E should consider ElecoFloor from Eleco Timber Frame.  This is a one-piece composite panel for use with both timber and masonry construction methods, removing the time and cost implications of including built-up or batten systems into the supply chain.

Currently a Robust Detail floor will only gain the housebuilder one point towards the CSH. On the other hand an easier way for developers, particularly of apartment buildings, to maximise credits and gain up to four is to combine careful design with a composite acoustic panel system and onsite pre-completion testing.

ElecoFloor has BBA certification and offers housebuilders an engineered alternative to built-up or batten flooring systems for exceeding the necessary levels of sound insulation. A shallow one-piece composite panel, ElecoFloor hinders the transmission of sound through ‘impedance mismatch’. This is a process that causes sound energy to be transformed into heat energy.

The system comprises four components: a moisture-resistant tongue and groove flooring grade chipboard, an acoustic membrane, a moisture-resistant medium density fibre board and an acoustic felt underlay. Each layer is bonded together forming a composite panel that is delivered to site ready for installation.

A strippable protective membrane means that the ElecoFloor is protected from the effects of moisture and dirt during construction. The system is installed with glued tongue and grooved joints, in the same way as a typical chipboard floor, but no fixing down is required. The whole composite system floats on the structural sub-deck, usually an OSB board. ElecoFloor can be installed within half the time taken to install a batten system, and once in place takes up just a third of the overall thickness, delivering material savings on brick courses as well as significantly reducing the overall height of the building.

ElecoFloor forms a key element of Eleco Timber Frame’s open panel ElecoFrame® timber frame construction system where it is installed over open web Ecojoist®s. However, the composite nature of the ElecoFloor component means that it is equally suitable for masonry builds and with all types of floor joists.

ElecoFloor was developed to meet, and exceed, the requirements of Part E and was primarily designed for new build residential buildings, but now it is just as successful in the refurbishment sector, where ceiling heights and existing doorways may prohibit the use of deeper systems.
